Abstract

The author observed changes in leukocyte counts in rabbits injected with whole blood, and its derivatives, and made the following conclusions:
1. Whole blond, packed blood cells, and plasma of normal rabbits seem to contain no leukocytosis inducing factor. They may, however, produce leukocytosis. This seems dependent upon the methods of handling and inducing them.
2. Hemoglobin of normal rabbits is thought to have an ability to induce a mild degree of leukocytosis.
3. Serum of normal rabbits contains active substance like a leukocytosis-inducing factor" which is thought to be produced during the processes of blood coagulation. The leukocytosis induced by the serum seems to be of peripheral origin.
4. The author emphasizes that care must be taken in demonstrating leukocytosis-inducing substances in circulating blood with blood and its derivatives.
