Abstract

The author carried out an experiment to observe the morphological changes in the blood vessels of various organs such as spleen, kidney, lungs, liver and adrenals after challenging injections with cardiotoxin as well as normal duck serum were applied to the rabbits sensitized with normal duck serum and the following results were obtained;
1. The allergic response of the vascular system to challenging injection of cardiotoxin seems to have no apparent relationship to the amount of cardiotoxin antigen, the levels of antibody titer and the course of days after challenging injection was made.
2. No essential difference could be made between the vascular lesions brought about by challenging injection of normal duck serum and the morphological changes resulted from the injection of cardiotoxin to the rabbits sensitized with normal duck serum. Consequently, the author arrives at the conclusion that vascular response to cardiotoxin may not be specific one peculiar to cardiotoxin.
3. Tile vascular response is generally characterized by fibrinoid swelling and degeneration along with an increase of connective tissue in the arteriolar walls and their surrounding tissue.
