Abstract


The experiments were carried out, using rabbits, to observe the-role of RES in the production of neutrophilia. Indian ink was applied as a blocking agent and typhoid vaccine as leukocytosis-producing stimulant. To suppress the function of RES 2 ml par kg body weight of 1% saline solution of Indian ink was injected to normal rabbits intravenously twice a day for 3, 6, or 8 successive days. To produce leukocytosis I ml per kg body weight of "Typhoid-Paratyphoid A and B Triple Vaccine" supplied by the National Public Health Institute was injected intravenously to the animals. In normal rabbits and in the rabbits. whose RES was blocked with Indian ink for a certain period were investigated the response of the circulating leukocytes to typhoid vaccine, the ability to produce the endogenous - leukocytosis-inducing plasma factor against it, and ,the reactivity of -the circulating leukocytes-to the endogenous leukocytosis-inducing plasma factor. The results thus obtained were discussed and the following conclusions were drawn.
1. The block of RES with Indian ink seemed to have little influence upon the circulating pseudoeosinophil and lymphocyte counts in normal rabbits.
2. The response of the circulating pseudoeosinophil and lymphocytes to typhoid vaccine was markedly weakened in the rabbits with blocked RES.
3. The ability to produce the endogenous leukocytosis-inducing plasma factor against typhoid vaccine was markedly decreased in the rabbits with h blocked RES.
4. The reactivity of the circulating leukocytes to the endogenous leukocytosis-inducing . plasma factor again was markedly decreased in the rabbits with blocked RES.
5. On the basis of the above it was suggested that RES might play a significant role in the regulatory mechanism of the circulating leukocytes, especially of neutrophil leukocytes.
