Abstract


The author studied the effects of adrenergic agents and adrenergic blocking agents on the phosphroylase activity of the removed human uterus, especially, the relative ability of several adrenergic blocking art^nts to prevent adrenergic-induced increases in the uterine phosphorylase activity investigated.
The results were as follows;
1. Epinephrine, norepinephrine, isoproterenol and quinterenol activated th:: phosphorylase activity of the removed human uterus in the following order;
Epinephrine> norepinephrine> isoproterenol> quinterenol.
2. The phosphorylase activity of the removed human uterus slightly activated by adrenergic a-blocking agents such as phenoxybenzamine, ergotamine and phentolarnine, but slightly inhibited by adrenergic [3-blocking agents such as pronethalol and propranolol.
3. The uterine phosphorylase activation by epinephrine usually not blocked by either kind of blocking agents alone, but blocked completely by a combination of two.
4. The uterine phosphorylase activation by norepinephrine not blocked by adrenergic fr- blocking agents such as pronethalol and propranolol, but blocked by adrenergic a- blocking agents such as phenoxybenzamine, ergotamine and phentolamine.
5. The uterine phosphorylase activation by isoproterenol and quinterenol blocked by adrenergic 13-blocking agents such as pronethalol and propranolol, but not blocked by adrenergic a-blocking agents such as phenoxybenzamine, ergotamine and phentolamine.
