Abstract
Studies were performed to observe the effects of procaine hydrochloride and caffeine on oxidative pho¡©sphorylations of animal and plant mitochondria. Rat livers and hypocotyls of germinated phaseolus aureus were used for the isolation of mitochondria and the both mitochondria were incubated in Warburg flask at 37¡ÆC and 20¡ÆC respectively.
The results were summarized as follows.
1. Procaine hydrochloride
The phosphorylation and P:O ratio were slightly increased by procaine hydrochloride in plant mitochondria. No noticeable change was observed in animal mitochondria.
2. Caffeine
No noticeable change was observed in animal and plant mitochondria with the equivalent doses of caffeine.
