Abstract
The author studied on the distribution of V. parahaemolyticus among sea water, sea mud, sea fish and marine products in Keo Je island from July to September in 1975. The author studies for isolated strains to bacteriological identification, Kanagawa phenomenon (hemolytic activity) on Modified Wagatsuma bkod agar plate.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. V. parahaemolyticus was isolated in 80 cases (19. 5%) among 414 specimens test of sea water, sea mud, oyster, sea cucumber, sea ear, sea squirt, shell fish, trumpet shell, cuttle fish, sea fish and sea weeds.
2. The isolation rates of V. parahaemolyticus tested were 40.9% (18 strains of 44 cases tested) in the fish, 40. 9% (4 strains of 10 cases tested) in the cuttle fish, 39. 9% (7 strains of 18 cases tested) in the trumpet shell, 37.0% (10 strains of 27 cases tested) in the sea ear, 33.3% (5 strains of cases tested) in the shell fish, 18.8%(3 strains of 16 cases tested) in the sea mud, 12. 5% (2 strains of 16 cases tested) in the sea water, 12. 5% (4 strains of 32 cases tested) in the sea weeds, 12.3 0 (25 strains of 203 cases tested) in the sea squirt, 6.3% (1 strains of 16 cases tested) in the sea cucumber and 6. 3% (1 strains of 16 cases tested) in the oyster.
3. The monthly isolation of V. parahaemolyticus was 14.0% (7 strains of 50 cases tested) in July, 22. 5% (52 strains of 231 cases tested) in August and 15. 0 (21 strains of 133 cases tested) in September.
4. The results of Kanagawa phenomenon:
(1) The hemolysis on Modified Wagatsuma agar added human erythrocytes was 20.0% Kanagawa positive at 24 hrs of incubation, and 25.0% Kanagawa positive at 48 hrs of incubation.
(2) The hemolysis on Modified Wagatsuma agar added rabbit erythrocytes was 30.0% Kangawa positive at 24 hrs of incubation, and 40.0% Kanagawa positive at 48 hrs of incubation.
