Abstract


Author studied on the incidence of intestinal helminths infections with fecal examination in 5,061 outpatients in Busan University Hospital, during period from January to December 1973.
Intestinal helminths studied were Ascaris lumbricoides, Hook worm, Trichuris trichiura, Trichostrongylus orientalis and Clonorchis sinensis. Each of the specimens was examined by double method, e, g , direct fecal smear and brine flotation method.
The results were summarized as follows.
1. The positive rate of intestinal helminths in total was 52.0% among 5.061 persons that of Ascaris lunlbricoides was 18. 7%, Hook worm 1. 3%, Clonorchis sinensis 4. 4%, Trichuris trichiura 37. 2% and Trichostrongylus orientalis 14.9%.
2. The percentage distribution of intestinal helminths infections by sex showed higher in female with 56 3% than that of male with 50.1 6, but the infection rate of Clonorchis sinensis was higher in male with 5.2% than that of female with 3.1 %.
3. The age group of 50-59 years showed the highest infection rate with 64.8% and the age of 1 year and under showed the lowest infection rate with 2.4%.
4. The monthly incidence of positive examination was the highest in March with 68.1% and the lowest in October with 28.3%.
