Abstract


The author thought that surveying the first molar only was more effected as appraisal of caries rate-in mixed dentitioned school children and studied dental caries of the first molar in the. Deafness & Blindness school children last year.
In this year, also studied on dental caries of the first molar in Mentally Retarded school childreq, who were attending to "H" and "G" school in Busan.
Total of 254 school children aged from 6 to 20 years old(male; 164. female; 104.) were studied.
The results were obtained as follows;
1. Dental caries appeared in 90.6%(89.6% in males, 92.2% in females). It seemed that the inci of dental caries in Mentally Retarded children was higher than those of Normal, and Deafness & Blin¡©dness school children.
2. Children decayed on all the first molar were in 44.5%.
3. More than 86.0% among the highest rate of first molar caries was appeared in I or 2 years after eruption. Therefore, preventive caution must be carried out in this time.
4. The incidence of first molar caries increased with the age until 13 or 14 years old and thergafter, the, _increment rate was not decreased. As result, oral hygiene of Mentally Retarded school children were more poor than the Deafness & Blindness school children.
5. Unilateral in 27.6%, bilateral in 73.6%, maxillary site in 72.4%, mandibular site in 86.6%, The= refore, more highly affected bilaterally and on mandibular site.
