Abstract


Author studied on the prevalence of intestinal protozoa with fecal examination in 1, 575 out patients in Busan University Hospital, during the period from 1972 to 1974.
Intestinal parasitic protozoa were treated 6 Kinds of Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba coli, Endolimax nana, Giardia lambria, lodamoeba butchlii and Isospora hominis. Each of the specimens were examined 3 times by direct fecal smear method.
The results were summarized as follows.
1. A positive rate of intestinal parasitic protozoa in total was 5.8% among 1,575 persons.
Of the 1, 575 persons examined by above mentioned method, the infection rate of Entamoeba histolytica was 3.3%, Eatamoeb coli 1. 1 %, Endolimax nana 1.2%, Giardia lambria 0.9%, lodamoeba butchlii 0.3% and Isospora hominis 0.04%.
2. The sexual distribution of intestinal parasitic protozoa showed higher rate in female with 7.5% than that of male with 4.7%.
3. The age group of 30-39 years showed the highest infection rate with 7.7% and the age group of 0-1 years showed the lowest infection rate with 3.6%.
4. The highest prevalence of the intestinal parasitic protozoa by month was on the July of 9.8% and that of the lowest was on the December of 3.2%
