Abstract
In order to produce cellulosic single cell protein from the cellulosic wastes, 252 strains of cellulose assimilating bacteria were isolated from 225 sources of microorganisms such as decomposed wood, compost oils, soils, cotton fabrics and useless paper.
The isolates were investigated for their ability to utilize cellulose as carbon source. One of them was screened by its stong cellulose assimilating ability, and was identified as Cellulomonas flavigena.
