Abstract

On 14 infants with so-called pseudocholera infantum who had been admitted to Seoul National University Hospital, during epidemics, from the late September to the early November of 1971, status of blood acid-base disturbances and serum eletrolytes was evaluated, as well as its clinical features.
Though its prognosis had been overall quite favorable, the patients with this disease syndrome were found to set in a quick, rather severer dehydration and a relatively profound metabolic adicosis, in spite of episodes of vomitings, which were obliged to give an immediate medical attention.
Judging from the level of serum electrolytes and acid-base disequilibrium, source of diarrhea in so-called pseudocholera infantum are suggested to be originated from duodenum area.
