Abstract
Total ridge counts in normal Korean males and ;emales as well as individuals with sex-chromosomal aberrations were reported in this study.
The mean total ridge count (TRC) in three hundreds and twenty-five school boys and too hundreds and eighty-nine school girls was 146-x40.2 S.D. (range, 88-208) and 132.248.5 S.D. (range 74-203), respectively.
The examinations of finger-tip pattern types, ridge counts and total ridge count in a patient with 45, XO Turner¢¥s syndrome and a patient with 47, XXY Klinefelter¢¥s syndrome revealed significant differences especially in total ridge count, 164 for Turner¢¥s syndrome and 86 for Klinefelter¢¥s syndrome.
The total ridge count is significantly higher in individuals with Turner¢¥s syndrome and significantly lower in individuals with Klinefelter¢¥s syndrome than that for normal individuals, but there is so much overlap in distributions that total ridge count is not useful as a diagnostic aid. of syndromes associated with numerical aberrations of sex-chromosomes.
