Abstract
We studied total protein and serum protein fractions by cellulose-acetate membrane electrophoresis in 40 cases of viral hepatitis.
The results were as follows:
1. The distribution of serum protein fractions on admission: al-globulin revealed 3.44% for 5.41% of control group, but total protein, albumin, az-, P- and r-globulin revealed minimal changes generally.
2. Age and Sex distribution: In sex distributiun, r-globulin revealed 20.8% in females for 17.7% of males, but other fractions revealed normal ranges. In age distribution, total protein and r-globulin were lowest-in group of one to three years and these were gradually in creased with aging, but other fractions were in normal ranges.
3. Electrophoretic patterns in relatio:i to Icterus: In pre-icteric phase, al-globulin was decreased, and r-globulin was increased. In icteric phase grand aglobulin were decreased, and 7-globulin was increased slightly.
4. Electrophoretic patterns associated with clinical course: On admission, total protein, albumin, al-and a=-globulin revealed lower limit of control group, ;r-globulin revealed upper limit of control group, and S-GPT values revealed 125 units or more in 5 cases of patient. One week later after initiation of treatment, all the fractions revealed improvement. and S-GPT values were decreased than admission day in all cases.
