Abstract

The close relationship between steroid and malignant tumors which has been observed by many researchers has been confirmed.
Since B. H. Chin reported his suggestion that carcinostatic action would appear in some steroids when a certain position, particularly 3-position, on their chemical structure was blocked at Ist Korean Medical Association Annual Meeting in 1949, authors have synthesized various 3-methoxy steroids successively, and these derivatives were screened as to their anti-cancer action using both ascites and solid forms of Ehrlich carcinoma and N.F. sarcomo in mice.
As the result of these tests, it was disacovered that estradiol-3-methylether shows a potential anticancer action, cholesterol -3-methylether and dehydroepiandro sterone-3-methylether have considerable inhibitory activity and pregnenolone-3-methylether has only weak action.
