Abstract


Up to the present, many studies and discussions have been centered around the reduction of liver functions brought about by malignant neoplasms.
There are, however, a number of other problems still remaining obscure both clinically and experimentally.
The present experimental works were performed in order to bring out possible relationships between dinically confirmed dysfunction of the liver in patients with malignant neoplasms and the toxic substances produced by them.
In this experiment the toxohormone was extracted from malignant neoplasms using the technique of Nakahara & Hukuoka(1948).
After the intraperitoneal injection of 450---500mg of the toxohormone into the rat, the liver function tests, total protein A/G ratio, thymol-turbitity test, cephalein-cholesterol flocculation test and brumsulphalein test were done.
In addition, toxohormone along with the liver emulsion of normal rabbits was administrated into the peritoneal cavity to evaluate and compare it´s influence on liver function using the above procedures.
From the studies the following are presented as conclusions
1) Generally the liver function tests of the rat, subjected to the influence of toxohormone extracted from malignant neoplasms such as cancer and sarcoma, were found to have been morkedly disturbed.
2) When a given dose of toxohormone is administrated over a long period in fractional deses it produced far more severe dysfunction of the liver than when given as a single dose.
3) Toxohormone obtained from cancer showed some ;difference in its influence on liver function compared to that obtained from sarcoma. The former produced more severe dysfunction than the latter.
4) In the group that received injection of toxohormone along with liver emulsion of the normal rabbit, there was found no apparent disturbance in liver function.
On the contrary, excretory function of brumsulphalein was slightly accelerated.
The results seem to suggest that toxohormone definitely plays a detrimetal role in the lowering of liver function, and liver emulsion seems to detoxify toxohormone.
