Abstract

It is a well established fact that stomach cancer patients show marked hypo-or achlorhydria which suggests a possible causal relationship between gastric anacidity and cancer toxin. To clarify this relationship, the author studied the gastric secretions of Pavlov pouched after administering toxohormone and alcohol precipitate of carcinonatous ascitic fluid with the following results.
1) After administration of a large amount of toxohormone, in a single dose, there were no significant
secretory changes in the Pavlov pouches.
2) Injection of lacohol precipitate of carcinomatous ascitic fluid also had no significant influence on
the amount or acidity of the. gastric juice in the Pavlov pouch dogs.
3) Repeated administration of toxohormone over prolonged periods showed no significant secretory
changes in. the Pavlov pouches compared with the control experiments.
In view of the above results, it seems probable that toxohormone or carcinomatous ascitic fluid
precipitate does not contain factors that depress the secretory activity of the stomach.
