Abstract

The effect of varying concentration of sodium chloride and sodium citrate on the staphylococcal agglutination has been studied.
The two agents employed here chosen because of their wide spread use in the blood transfusion and fluid therapy.
The staphylococcal strain employed here were staphylococcus aureus, albus, citreus and the results of agglutination test were determined by macroscopic examination.
It was formed that the optimal concentration of Nacl and sodium citrate for the highest agglutination titer was 1.6% and 5% respectively.
From these experiment it was infered that the concentrations of sodium chloride and sodium citrate are not critical in effecting staphylococcal agglutination, though the change in their concentration has caused some variation in agglutination titer.
