Abstract

One case of the primary adenocarcinoma of the common bile duct with metastasis is reported.
A 53-year- old man was admitted with abdominal distention, jaundice and anorexia of 2 months, duration.
After careful clinical evaluation, it was believed that the patient had an obstructive jaundice due to malignancy.
At operation an obstructive mass of the proximal portion of the common bile duct was found, which was reported as primary adenocarcinoma of the bile duct on microscopic examination.
Treatment consisted of dilatation of the common duct and T tube placement with cholecystectomy.
Left hepatic abscess was developed postoperatitvely, and identified as metastatic lesions of the carcinoma of the bile duct on reoperation.
The patient has remained well for the past 9 months.
