Abstract
A case of unusual huge retroperitoneal teratoma weighing 2,200 gms is reported with a brief review
of literature. A 3 months old boy(8,100gms of body weight) was admitted with progressively enlarging
abdomen after birth. No local or systemic symptom was noted. Palpation revealed a slightly irregular
mass of about adult head size with fairly defined border. The mass occupied neary entire abdomen and
fluid wave was demonstrated. Roentgenographic examination showed a huge mass shadow in the midab
domen, peripheral displavement of gastrointestinal tract and irregular calciful densities in the right and
pelvic abdomen. The resected tumor consisted of multiple cysts containing clear fluid of various size and
scattered solid tissues including bony structures. Histologically, the tumor composed of tridermal origin,
however, no evidence for malignancy was observed.
