Abstract
Two cases of pheochromocytoma are presented and the literature on the subject is reviewed. Until
recently the patient with pheochromocytoma presented an extremly difficult management problem for
internists, surgeons and anesthesiologists. It is the purpose of this paper to discuss recent advances in
understanding of catecholamine metabolism, new pharmacologic agents which are useful in the manage
ment of pheochromocytoma and the therapeutic approuches to this patent. The introduction of
adrennergic receptor blockers and the discovery of the major pathways of catecholamines has led to
considerable progress in the diagnosis and treatment of pheochromocytoma.
