Abstract

The occurance of parathyroid cyst in macroscopic size is rare and fifty-nine cases were reported until
1969 in the world and only one case was reported in Korea in 1971.
A thirty-three year old male patient, who had a palpable mass in the left side of the anterior neck,
was admitted to the Seoul National University Hospital.
The mass, which was paper-thin, semitransparent cyst, was removed and measured 3.8§¯ in diameter
and it contained about 20§¢ of clear serous fluid.
The diagnosis was made histopathologically as parathyroid cyst, which was lined with monolayer of
focally stratified cyboidal or columnar epithelium.
In the wal of the cyst, compressed parathyroid tissue which was mainly composed of clear cell, was
noticed. Post-operate course was uneventful and patient was discharged on post-operative sixth day.
There was no evidence of parathyroid function imbalance during hostpital course.
A brief reviews of the literature was made.
