Abstract

Sixty-six patients were tested for their ability to react to 2, 4 dinitrochlorobenzene to develop delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity during 6 months period from April 1974 to September 1974:
Among the 66 patients, 20 were normal control group, 10 were benign neoplasm group and 36 were malignant neoplasm group. Of the malignant neoplasm group, 24 were resectable malig-nant neoplasm group, and 12, were inoperable or early recurrent malignant neoplasm group.
The patients ranged from 23 to 64 years (mean-49.3 years) in age. Patients over 70 years old were excluded because it has been shown that immunologic reactivity declines with advancing age. Also excluded were those receiving chemotherapeutic drugs, steroids, or irradiation within 4 months of testing.
The results were as follows:
1. The control group (18/20) and benign neoplasm group (9/10) were exhibited delayed cutan-eous hypersensitivity to DNCB by 90%, respectively.
2. 44.416(16/36) of the all-malignant neoplasm cases displayed delayed cutaneous hypersensiti-vity to DNCB.
Of the all malignant neoplasm cases, 62.5%(15/24) of the resectable malignant neoplasm group and 8.3%(1/12) of the inoperable or early recurrent malignant neoplasm group exhibited delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity to DINTCB.
These studies suggest that there is a significant correlation between cell mediated immunologic reactivity as measured by delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity to DNCB and the course of the malignant disease.
