Abstract


The smooth muscle turners of, the gastrointestinal tract are infrequent and preoperative diagnosis is not usually possible. They case various clinical manifestations abdominal pain, hemorrhage, and intestinal obstruction, which are by far the most frequent among others.
Rarely they are the causes of acute abdominal conditions including fatal G-I bleeding, necessitating emergency operation.
Usually the small bowel leiomyornas are diagnosed at laparotomy or necropsy.
A case of leiomyoma of the proximal jejunum presenting with massive gastrointestinal bleedingg in an 56 year-old male is reported on account of it¢¥s rarity.
The characteristics of leiomyomas of the small intestine and the literatures are reviewed.
