Abstract


In the rabbit, the blood pressure response to Mcn-A-343, AHR-602 and pilocarpine which belong to the ganglionic stimulants of Category Ⅱ type(classified by Levy and Ahlquist), was investigated.
1) The above three substances produced a depressor response, which could be antagonixed by atrpine. The pressor response was not observed.
2) The above three substances, however, showed pressor activity in rabbits treated wit hexamethonium or chlorisondamine. In a part of experiments pilocarpine did not show pressor activity.
3) The pressor response of the chlorisondamine-reated rabbits to McN-A-343 and pilocarpine was abolished by reating rabbits with either of atropine, bretulium or pheoxybenzamine. P-286 markedly diminished the pressor effect. ( In this series of experiments, AHR-602 was not tried) Mcn-A-343 elicited a much smaller pressor response when given immediatedly after large doses of TMA, but the pressor activity was restored in 5 to 10 minutes. These data indicated that the pressor activity is due to stimulation of "atrpini-sensitive site" in thesympathetic ganglia.
4) The three substances could not produce the pressor effect in iproniazid treated rabbits, even when given after chlorisondamine
5) The present expermints showed that there are some different aspects in the blood pressor response of the rabbit to the above three substances, when compared with that of the dog and cat.
