Abstract

In whole anesthetized rabbits and spinal rabbits, a study was made of the influence of reserpine on the pressor response to norepinephrine. 1) Reserpine increased the pressor response of the whole rabbits to norepinephrine. The approximate minimal dose of reserpine to increase the pressor response was 8μg/kg. The maximal increase of the pressor response to norepinephrine, the full supersensitivity, developed 10 hours after reserpine (200μg/kg) administration: 2) The pressor response of the spinal rabbits to norepinephrine (more than 1.2μg/kg) was more pronounced than that of the whole rabbits. Reserpine exerted little influence on the pressor response to norepinephrine in the spinal´ rabbits. 3) Cocaine was found to retain its ability to increase the pressor response to norepinephrine in the whole rabbits and spinal rabbits treated with reserpine. Hexamethonium, however, failed to retain its ability to increase the pressor response to norepinephrine in reserpine treated whole rabbits and spinal rabbits.
