Abstract


The author studied the effect of various organic substances and pH on the phage hemagglutination (PHA), cold and worm phage hemagglutination (CPH and WPH), and obtained the following results.
The CPH and WPH were not formed in the solution of carboyhydrates against proteinic substances.
A limit was observed in the dose of proteinic substances effective for adsorption of bacterial substance to red cell and the PHA.
The kind of suspending fluid did not show any influene to the extraction of bacterial substance effective for PHA.
The phage did not adsorb to the red cells sensitizd in gluccose substances effective for adsorption of bacterial substance to red cell and the PHA.
The kind of suspending fluid did not show any influence to the extractio of bacterial substance effective for PHA.
The phage did not adsorb to the red cells sensitized in glucose solution against beef-extract. The CPH-forming ability of red cells was not changed by pre-treatiment of red cell in glucose solution.
The red cells sensitized at ph 2.-0, 3.0 and 11.0, against pH 4.0~10.0, did not form CPH and, to this red cell. the phage did not also adsorb.
The adsorbing ability of phage to sensitized red cell still remained even though the mixture of phge and bacterial substance is pre-cooled in glucose solution, pH 3.0 AND pH 11.0 against beef-extract and pH 7.0.
The CPH-forming ability of red cells sensitized in normal saline or at pH 6.0 decreased by washing with various pH fluids and the degree of CPH formation was similar to tht by the red cells sensitized at each pH itself.
