Abstract

In the rabbits, a large amount of chloramphenicol was administered for prolonged period and the reticuloendothelial-function was examined by means of radioactive tracer method applying the Silver protein labled with iodine-131.
1. In the animals treated with chloramphenicol, the disappearance rate of blocking agent in the circulating blood was delayed markedly.
2. In the chloramphenicol treatment, the phagocytic activity examined by the distribution of blocking agents in the reticuloendothelial organs of the animals, showed a marked decrease in the spleen and lung, a, slight decrease. In the bone marrow and a marked increased in the liver.
3. A marked depression of phagocytic function and the altered distribution of¢¥the blocking agent, in the chloramphenicol treatment suggest that the cause of anemia is closely related to the change of reticuloendothelial functions.
