Two hundred forty cases of pulmonary detected from 26,802 Chonnam University students enrolled during 11 years from 1968 were studied on public health view points, and the following results were obtained.
1. Excluding 30 cases (12.5%) detected at entrance physical examination, 124 cases (51.7%)were found through annual periodic X-ray mass survey and 86 cases (35.8%) were clinic client with subjective symptom.
Annual prevalence rate was laid between 2.4% to 2.7% and average annual attack rate was 0.89%. And cases were classified as 71.3% minimal, 25.8% moderate, 2.9% far advanced by extent, and 56.7% recovered (arrested and improved), 2.5% deteriorated, 40.8% radio logically no change by prognosis.
2. Annual attack rates of each college were 1.43% Law, 1.29% Medicine, 0.87% Technology, 0.81% Commercial, 0.67% Agriculture, and Liberal arts, and the proportional distribution of cases together with moderate and far advance by were, 36.8% Agriculture, 36.0% Commercial, 32.3% Law, 31.6% Technology, 25.8% Medicine, 17.4% Liberal arts, respectively.
Although it seems to be no greater difference of proportional distribution of advanced cases between Law and Medicine, the contrast facts that case detected by subjective symptom were higher (61.3%) in Law than Medicine (30.6%) but recovery were higher (61.3%) in Law than Medicine (30.6%) but recovery were higher (58.!%) in Medicine than Law (48.4%) suggested that the importance of habitual health attitude and sincere ness to find out in early stage and get better treatment.
3. Through periodic X-ray mass survey could find 75.9% of minimal cases but 59.3% were minimal when expect subjective client. And in recovery, far advanced cases (recovery rate 85.7%) were eager to cure disease than that of minimal (recovery rate 51.5%).
4. 43.6% of the-cases were detected during 2 years period after entrance, and after on decreased. Several cases (13.8%) were found among students who readmitted after interruption of the school.
5. Recovery rate (arrested and improved) were highest (57. 1%) in far advanced cases than minimal (31.0%) or moderate (33.9 percentage) during 2 years period after treatment began.
Also 10.6% of minimal, 12.9% of moderate and none of far advanced were removed from the school 1.7% of the total cases were removed due to tuberculosis, which was little. higher than that of general (8.3%), from the school and by college 7.7% Technology, 15..5% Agriculture, 17.4% Liberal arts, 12.9% Law, 20.0% Commercial, 3.2% Medicine were removed, respectively.
6. Comparing, the statistical data (table 1, 10) between years before 1963 and after 1964 when minimal tuberculosis student started to be admitted it was suggested that there should not be any hindrance to admit T.B. student under the condition of good medical and health control base, in regards on not only public health stand point but scholastic view point.
