Histological Investigation following Implantation of Autologous and Homologous Marrow Tissue into the Liver and Kidney of Rabbits

Abstract


Autologous and homologous marrow tissues of the tibia were implanted into the liver and kidney of the rabbits, and the fate of implanted marrow tissue was studied for twelve sequential weeks by serial imprints with Wright,s stain, iron stain, alkaline and acid phosphatase reactions.
1. In the autologous -implantation, the implanted marrow tissue appeared to be hypocellular for oae week after the implantation. However, marked growth of the marrow tissue was noticed from three weeks after the implantation.
2. In the homologous implantation, the grafted tissue revealed hyaline degeneration and necrotic changes during the third week of implantaton, and the implanted tissue was separated from the host tissue by the broad fibrotic bands which contained abundant lymphocytes.
3. The iron positive granules and the activities of alkaline and acid phosphatase in the tissue of autografts increased gradually during the period of marrow proliferation, whereas the iron granules and enzyme activities of the homograf is showed gradual decrease.
In the tissue of autografts, the iron granules and the enzyme activities were noted mainly in the marrow sinuses and at the boundaries between the. grafted marrow tissue and the host organs.
