Abstract


1. Effects of reserpine pretreatment, administration of chlorisondamipe and desmethylimipramine on blood pressure response of the tortoise to norepinephrine, epinephrine, angiotensin, and tyramine were investigated.
2. Both the short term. and long-term pretreatment with reserpine (dose: I mg/kg or 3 mg/kg; 24 hrs, 72 hrs, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month prior to the experiments) did not cause supersensitivity to norepinephrine, epinephrine, and angiotensin.
3. A long-term pretreatment of the tortoise with reserpine (3 mg/kg, 50 days prior to the experiments) did not cause supersensitivity to norepi phrine,epinephrine, and angiotensin. The effect of tyramine was remarkably weakened.
4. The pressor effects of the above four pressor substances were riot modified by chlorisondatnine administration.
5. Desmethylimipramine did not affect the pressor response to norepinephrine, epinephrine and angiotensin, but inhibited the response to tyramine.
6. The possible causes not to produce supersensitivity to norepinephrine in tortoise blood pressure response were discussed.
