Abstract

Metabolic effect of catecholamines (norepinephrine, epinephrine and isopropy-larterenol) on plasma glucose and free fatty acid (FFA) was investigated in the.duck.
1. 30 ¥ìg/kg of isopropylarterenol elevated concentrations of plasma glucose and FFA markedly, while same dose of norepinephrine did not.
The order of metabolic potencies was isopropylarterenol norepinephrine.
2. The doses above 3 pg/kgs of isopropylarterenol produced metabolic effects.
Increasing the doses metabolic response was increased proportionally.
3. Metabolic effects of isopropylarterenol on plasma gluose and FFA were blocked by propranolol.
4. It was suggested that "metabolic receptor" in the duck was ?-adrenergic type.
