Abstract


Mass screening survey for early detection of uterine cancer was carried out for full one year in 1972 for 10,304 women randomly selected out of all 978, 603, women inhabitant above twenty years of age in Chonnam Province at that time.
Followings were the results of the first examination for these women.
1. The number of women subjected to this survey was 10,304, coinciding with 1.04% of all women living in Chonnam Province in 1972. Age distribution showed that the highest incidence of the examined was concentrated in women between 35 and 39. years of age, being 30.8% of all and 70% of all candidates was between 30 and 44 years of age.
2. Cytological examination was negative in 97.9%, suspicious in 2.0% /0 and positive in 0. 11% of the examined. Histological examination was done in 118 (51. 1%) of 218 cases who was more than Class III of Pap-smear.
Malignancy was confirmed in 0. 2% (21 cases) of which intraepithelial carcinoma %vas 0. 05% (5 cases) invasive from 0.15% (15 cases) and endometrial carcinoma 0. 1% (one case), and the latter could further be divided by clinical grading into Stage 0 is five, Stage I in nine, Stage II in four, Stage III in two and Stage ¥³ in none.
