Abstract


The author presented the infestation of Paragonimus westermani in the extradural space of the 12th thoracic spine with flaccid paralysis of both lower extremities.
The successful removal of the cyst was followed on dramatic improvement of urinary disturbance in 7 days, reappearance of deep tendon reflexes in 11 days and, slow but steady recovery of dermatome over a period of 5 months. The patient began walking with the aid of crutches 3 months after operation.
