Abstract


1) Antibacterial action of two Nitrefuran derivatives, furaskin(5-Nitro-2-furaldehyd Semicarbazone) and Z-furan(5-Nitro-2-furaldehydic amide) has been studied by standard serial dilution method with 55 strains of bacteria.
Both furaskin & Z-furan had a strong antibacterial action against Staphylcoccus, B. subtidis, B. anthracis salmonellae, shigellae, and E.coli, but Erysipelathrix rhusiopathiae were, sensitive. To Z-furan and clostridia were senitive to furaskin respectively. Mycobateria Brucellae, Proteus and fungi(Candida species & cryptococcus neoformans) were resistant to both furaskin and Z-furan.
2) Determination of effective serum levels of furaskin & Z-furan. was made with rabbits, but it has failed due to complete growth of staphylococcus aureus F. D.A. 209p on the first tube of two-fold diluted rabbit serum in every hour after oral administration of therapeutic dose, (5mg/Kg).
3) Furaskin and Z-furan exhibited additive action with Chlorotetracycline but not synergistic action.
