Abstract


To Investigate the sex chromatin in the exfoliated epithelial cells of amniotic Ifuid, 30 cases of pregnant women whose gestation ranging from 18 to 39 weeks were studied and the following result have been obtained with the differential staining method of Biebrich Scarlet-Fast Green.
1) In 30 cases of Korean pregnant women, exfoliated epithelial cells in amniotic fluid stained with Guard´ s Biebrich Scarlet-Fast Green method. The appearance of sex chromatin are observed upon fetal sex.
2) In 22 cases of female fetus the appearance of sex chromatin in exfoliated epithelial cells are 36.0 ±4.7%, Marginal type of sex chromatin showed 24.0±4.2% (17~33), Submarginal type showed 8.5±2.8%(5~15), Paranucleolar type showed 1.8±0.9%(0,~0,4) , Bipartite type showed 1.3±0.8%(0,3).
3) In 8 cases of male fetus, the appearance of sex chromatin in exfoliated epithelial cells are 4.1±2.2%, Marginal type of sex chromatin showed 0.6±0.9%(0~2), Submarginal type of sex chromatin showed 2.4±1.4%(0~4), Paranucleolar type of sex chromatin showed 0.6±0.9%(0~2), Bipartite type of sex chromatin 0.5±0.5 %(0~1).
4) The appearance of sex chromatin in epithelial cells in fetal sexes; over 25 %in female group and less 10%in male group. This study showed obvious difference upon appearance of sex chromatin.
