Abstract


The phage hemagglutination is excellently formed by the bacterial substance extracted by boiling at the pH 6.0~9.0. The phage hemagglutination, however, by the bacterial substance extracted by boiling at the strong acid and alkali-pH and treating at 50°C and 37°C for 2 days is almost negligible. The phage adsorbing rate, at 0°C and 37°C, to sensitized red cells is the highest when the bacterial substance is extracted by boiling at the pH 5.0~10.0.
The pH for extracting has some influences on the phage inactivating activity of bacterial substance while the temperature is generally not.
The effective bacterial substance is well extracted in the non-electrolyte. The red cell sensitization of bacterial substance, however, does not occur in the non-electrolyte.
A indirect bacterial hemagglutination can be recognized in the reaction of higher concentration of anti-phage serum and sensitized red cells.
