Abstract

In the previous experiments on the above subject, I found that the mice mortality caused by the overdosage of Epinephrine and Acetylcholine was much less in irradiated groups with red and blue lights compared with non-irradiated control mice. On the other hand, the mice mortality rate caused by the injection of lethal doses of Nikethamide was found to be higher in both colored rays than in the ordinary light. From these findings, I drew a suggetion that there would exist some qualitative difference in the effects of visible radiations upon the mice mortality in accordance with drugs acting whether on the autonomic nervous system or on the central nervous system.
Next, with respect to Cortisone effects to these drug mortalities, the preliminary treatment of the animals with Cortisone 2mg/kg, reduced universally a great deal of their lethal effects. Through this additional experiment, I attempted to observe more in detail to what extent these different _ drugs have influences on the radiation effects--and also to find out changes of drug mortality resulting from an increasing series of dosages of Cortisone.
Drugs used here, include Cardiazol, Strychnine , nitrate and all other. drugs except Acetylcholine tested in previous studies, but in different dosages.
The results are as follows
1. The mice mortalities resulted from the overdosage of Cardiazol and Strychnine were reduced considerably in the group flashed with isolated visible rays compa red with the control group under the normal light. Both mortalities of Cardiazol and Strychnine were observed to be higher in the red ray than in the blue ray.
2. The preliminary injection of Cortisone gave rise. to the reduction of mortalities due to Epinephrine and Nikethamide. The anti-lethal effects of Cortisone were obtained best at a dosage of 2mg/kg.
3. The anti-lethal effects of Cortisone against Cardiazol and Strychnine were not obvious.
Therefore the anti-lethal effects of Cortisone would seem to vary in accordance with its dosage as well as the hind and dosage of lethal drugs.
