Abstract

The effects of antibiotics on agglutinin production were studied by immunizing rabbits with Shigella flexnvri 1b, 2a, 2b and 3a. Streptomycin, aureomycin and erythromycin were injected into rabbits intramusculary during the course of immunization, and the following results were obtained.
80 (1034)
1. Agglutinin production of antibiotic,´ resistant variants was generally lower than that of parent strains.
2. Agglutinin production of rabbits injected 3mg per kg daily during the whole course of immunization is lower than that of non-treated rabbits.
3. The increase in dose of antibiotics is more inhibitory to antibody production.
4. Administration of antibiotics for short periods of time was inhibitory to antibody production only during the periods of antibiotics administration.
5. Effects of combined administration of antibiotics was also inhibitory to antibody production.
