Abstract

The findings in 221 patients of vitiligo vulgaris treated with local irritatives and ultraviolet, or oxsoralen and ultraviolet in the Dermatology Clinic, Chonnam University Medical School Hospital, are presented. From these studies the following conclusions are reached.
1. Patients of vitiligo vulgaris are divided into 2 types characterized by the lesion with its surrounding pigmentation (A-type) and without its surrounding pigmentation (B-type), according to the author. Patients .of A-type were found in 167 cases(75.57%) and those of B-type were found in 54 cases(24.43%).
2. Clinically A-type is malignant and B-type is benign form. Because the patients of B-type respond more readily to treatment than do those of A-type.
3. Treatment should be continued for at least 6 to 12 months and longer if repigmentation is ´steady and continuous to patients of A-type, and it should be continued for at least 4 to 7 months to those of B-type.
