Abstract

Although it has become precise that spike and wave pattern mentioned by Gibbs & Lennox has no more close relation with petitmal seizure pattern only, it is true that there is no agreement in the interrelation-ship between any clinical type of epilepsy and this pattern. Sixteen cases of bilaterally synchronous wave of spike pattern classified by jasper among 326 cases of doubtful epilepsy have been studied at Seoul National University Hospital. And the result in brief are as followings.
lj The mojority cases observed were petit mal or combined with petitmal, and it is doubtful that age factor has reflected in this regards although the average years of age among 16 cases were 11.
2)´ The cases of Is´ Type by Silverman were 4; one during petit mal seizure, the rests during it´s interval. The cases of 2nd Type were 2 grand mal and 9 of petit mal or combined petit mal. The case of 3rd Type was 1; it is also a petit mal.
3) In petit mal cases sharp and wave were found more frequently than spike and wave, and in petit mal cases combined with grand mal spike as well as sharp were multiple.
4) Among 5 cases of petit mal or combined, spike & slow or sharp & slow were shown rhythmically in turn. The rhythmical portion in 6 partially rhythmical cases was 1/3 or 1/4 of entire portion.
5) Abnormal waves were apt to be prolonged during seizure and this kind of waves in grand mal showed random or paroxysmal during its seizure interval.
6) No specific relationship was observed between C.P.S. amplitude and clinical types, however the 1s, Type had much of them.
7) Although no relationship was conformed between slow wave pattern and clinical types, many dome shapes were recognized in the 1st Type.
