The patient was a 19 years-old Korean male who was performed modified radical mastoidectomy on left side. A few days later he noticed the incomplete closure of the left eye, drinking disturbance of water and increased lacrimation. Further we found out the many herpetic eruptions on entrance of left external auditory canal, loss of the taste on left anterior 2/3 of tongue, moderate pain on herpetic region and peripheral type of left facial paralysis without disturbances of cochlear and vestibular nerve.
It was diagnosed clinically as the herpes Zoster Oticus and its affected region was suspected strongly geniculate ganglion of facial nerve.
The herptic eruption healed a week later with crust formation, disturbance of lacrimation recovered after 2 weeks, and facial paralysis returned to normal state after 4 weeks.
