Abstract


Holmber and Laurell"I characterized a specific copper binding protein from normal human serum, this protein they named ceruloplasmin. They have shown that it was alpha 2-globulin with a molecular weight of 151,000 and each molecule carried eight atoms of copper. Most of workers now believe most of plasma copper is bound to this protein. Ceruloplasmin as active amine-oxidase oxidize many substrate especially on adrenalin, noradrenalin, and serotonine (5-hydroxytryptamin) etc, which is closedly related with nervous system. Therefore, they thought it was also closely related with brain metabolism.
Akerfeldt(z) compared with schizophrenic patient serum and normal control serum ceruloplasmin activity. He noted ceruloplamin oxidase activity increased in the average in schizophrenic groups compared with that in normal controls. Abood(s) also has observed increased oxidase activity in schizophrenic patients. But ;Horwittc4>, Scheinberg and Frohman´5) were noted there were no significant difference between schizophrenic patients and normal control sera ceruloplasmin activity. In patient with hepatolenticular degeneration (Wilson´s disease), copper accumulate in most body tissue especially on the liver and brain. Such indeed Scheinberg and Gilttin(6) were the first to demonstrate a great reduction in the concentration j of ceruloplasmin.
As described above ceruloplasmin were important in brain metabolism and copper metabolism, therefore author apt to know a part of ceruloplasmin activity in relation with various diets. Then first determined the ceruloplasmin activity on 50 Korean male professional blood donor sera and second experiment the variation of ceruloplasmin activity by feeding to the rat with nonprotein diet, high fat diet and high carbohydrate diet.
