Abstract

Main purpose of this study is to determine precise relative susceptibility to alveoloclasia of various individual teeth.
Although many studies on the prevalence of periodontal disease have been made by many investigators, most of these studies were related to clinical or macroscopical aspect, not exclusively from the dental radiographical stand-point.
Furthermore, regarding the dental radiographical survey of periodontal disease in Korean, there has been neither reported nor performed in this aspect.
In this study, the author selected 354 cases of full mouth X-ray, including 146 cases of male and 208 cases of female, aging from 10 to 70 years old. This material was obtained among the out-patient clinic of dental department of Severance Hospital, Medical School, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea.
Dental radiographical radiogram was measured in accordance with Miller and Seidler´ s measurement, and comparison was made and evaluated between Korean and American.
Following results were obtained;
1. It was found that alveoloclastic experiences of Korean show distinctly higher score than that of American, with regard to an increase of both age and sexes.
However, most significant differences among the two races were observed in age group of third, fourth, fiifth and sixth decade. Among B.D. of Korean is higher with score of 26.86 compared with among B.D. of American score of 19.60.
2. Alveoloclastic experiences of various individual teeth of Korean were distinctly higher with regard to both age and sexes. However, upper third molar of American noted significant higher index ranging from 1.02 to 1.13 than same teeth of Korean index ranging from 0.46 to 0.48.
It is assumed that higher alveoloclastic experiences of upper second molar of American teeth is responsible for this finding.
3. In comparison with the three category of relative susceptibility in both Korean and American, following differences were noted. In general, higher index of each group was found in Korean. However, there was no significant differences between upper and lower or between right and left or between male and female.
