Abstract


From hemodynamic studies on 48 patients under the closed circuit absorption technique utilizing Fluotihane the following are presented as conclusions: 1) All the patients showed a marked decrease in the pulse pressure, the 15 minute value after anesthetic induction decreased to 34.04.0 percent from 39.61.6 mm Hg. of the preanesthetic pulse pressure and the postanesthetic value was 28.03.0 percent. 2) As compared with 5520.4377.9 cc/min. of the preanesthetic cardiac output, the 15 minute value after anesthetic induction showed the decrease of 5.76.1 percent and the postanesthetic value decreased to 5.06.4 percent in all the patients. It is confirmed that the primary cause of the hypotension under the closed circuit Fluothane anesthesia depends upon the cardiac output. 3) The 15 minute value after anesthetic induction increased to 10.64.3 percent of the total peripheral resistance and the postanesthetic value was 11.88.6 percent as compared with 1707.4152.4 dynes. sec. CM-5 of the preanesthetic total peripheral resistance. This seems mean that the total peripheral resistance compensates the decrease of the cardiac of the cardiac output. 4) The hypotension with occurs during the closed circuit absorption technique under Fluothane anesthesia does not seriously affect the patient´s general status. It is again recognized that this techique is an economic and safe method and hypotension due to depression of the myocardium is compensated sufficiently by the peripheral vasculature during Fluothane anesthesia.
