Abstract

The antiglobulin reaction of rabbit sera immunized with Salmonella typhi was studied id combination with indirect hemagglutination reaction, and the following results were obtained.
1. Heat-extracted antigens of S. typhi T2 (Vi positive) and H901 showed marked atitiglobulin reactions. 5 with homologous immune.sera, but antigens of Paracolobacterium ballerup (Vi positive), showed only ´`. negligible reactions with homologus sera.
2. Vi antigen is heat-stable and found in the heated extracts of S. typhi T2 and P. ballerup.
3. The antiglobulin reaction of Vi antigen was negative against Vi antisera.
4. The antiglobulin reaction of S.´typhi T2 serum with-T2 antigen was preserved well when serum was absorbed with living H901 suspensions, while the reaction became negative when the serum was absorbed with erythrocytes sensitized with heat-extracted antigens of H901.
5. Ammonium sulfate-precipitated fractions of heat-extracted 0 antigens of T2, H9o1 and 0901 were studied for their activities for globulin reactions, and it was found that the activities of. fractions differ by the strains.
6. Water-dialyzed or ammonium sulfate-precipitated fractions of H901 serum were investigated for their activities for antiglobulin reactions, and the water-soluble globulin fractions were found to be more active than the saline-soluble portions.
7. Antibodies which were detected by the antiglobulin reaction were more heat-stable than normal complete antibodies.
8. The antiglobulin reaction was positive in rabbit sera from the beginning of immunization, and became evident according to the progress of immunization.
