Abstract

A case of leiomyosarcoma originated in the jejunum of a year-old Kcrean male is reported because of an extreme rarity of this type of lesion. The initial symptoms were that of a mass and general malaise Which probably were related to the metastatic lesions in the liver. The neoplasm showed necrosis and cystic change and also caused ulceration of the overlying mucosa. There was an extensive hepatic metastasis which was the only site of metastasis noted at autopsy. The histology of the neoplasm was variable from ine place to another however mostly the tumor cells were of mature smooth muscle with little histological appearance of malignancy. The metastatic lesions also showed a benign histology. A brief review of literature is also made in order to arouse interest of clinicians particularly when they are dealing with gastrointestinal bleeding of an obscure source.
