Abstract

On the basis of postulation that extracts of normal and Necrotic tissue may possess not only inflammation inducing ability but also stimulative factors of proliferation as a repair process of the injured tissue, an experiment was carried out to observe the mechanism of repair process incident to inflammation. First, the author prepared normal and necrotic specimens of such organs as kidney, heart, and liver from rabbits, and their supernatant fluid derived therefrom was injected intracutaneously in an amount of 0.4 c.c. each at 28 sites selected arbitrarily in the abdomen of normal healthy rabbits. Extracts of normal tissue were injected only at 14 sites with those of necrotic tissue being given at the remaining sites, 7 out of 14 sites where normal tissue extracts were injected were excised for further histological examination. at a certain intervals 24 hours after a single injection (Single Injection Group), and the other 7 sites were reinjected 24 hours after the first injection (Second Injection Group). .
In like manner, two different injection groups were also divided for necrotic tissue. After these local lesions of 1 st and 2 nd Injection Groups were taken respectively in the. course of I st, 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th, 6 th, 8th and 10th. day after the last- injection, they were microscopically examined with the application of various staining methods, and the results were summarized as follows;
1) When injected intracutaneously, both normal and necrotic tissue extracts were shown to be able to produce initially a local inflammatory reaction which, in turn, gave way to proliferative stage as a repair process.
2) Inflammatory and proliferative ability was demonstrated to be far more intense in the extracts of necrotic tissue than in those of normal tissue.
3) It was verified that not only certain inflammation inducing substances exist in the extracts of normal and necrotic tissue as strongly advocated for by Dr. Sohn, but also proliferation stimulating substances are present in them.
