Abstract

A Korean female patient, age 51 years, was admitted to Presbyterian Hospital with a post-operative massive hemorrhage which had continued for about 20 days following tooth extraction of the upper right canine.
Under general anesthesia, curettage of the extraction socket and alveolectomy were performed, and the wound was closed by means of a suturing. The operation was completed uneventfully. During the operations the patient recieved a total of 2,000 cc. of whole blood intravenously.
On the seventh post-operative date at our out-patient clinic, she was found to have massive hemorrhage from the operated field. Under local anesthesia, a second operation was done in the same field as the first operation and a biopsy was taken. The pathologist´s report revealed a choriocarcinoxna of the upper gingiva.
X-radiation of the operated field through the skin was administered, with a total dosage of 4,000 r being given. Three months following the second operation the patient was re-examined, and there was no evidence of recurrence.
