Abstract


The semilunar ganglion cells of the human fetuses were observed quantitatively.
1. Numbers of the semilunar ganglion cells of the fifth month, seventh month and tenth month of the gestation ages were 83,132, 116,926 and 116,057, respectively. The number of the semilunar ganglion cells had developed fully at latest on the seventh month of fetal age. The numerical difference of the ganglion cells between left and right ganglions and the individual difference were conspicuous.
2. There were three kinds of ganglion cell; the large, medium and small-sized cells, from the fourth month through all fetal period. The small sized-cells were most numerous; and the large-sized cells were very few throughout the fetal period.
3. ´The development of the cell bodies of three kinds was rapid until the sixth fetal month and thereafter became slow and the development of the nuclei of three kinds was rapid until the eighth fetal month and thereafter had no change.
