Abstract


Effect of fracture and the administration of corticosteroid on calcium ´metabolism in bone Vas studied experimentally. The left femora of mice were fractured and cortisone and DOCA were administered in vivo and in vitro. On the 2nd,; 4th and 6th days after fracture, the femora were treated with Ca45 and ´ the calcium content and specific (radio-) activity were measured. Following observations were made:
1.- No appreciabe change- was noted in the amount of calcium in _either fractured or non-fractured bone, in, vivo or m ,vitro, whether, cortisone and DOCA were administered or not and irrespective of the time passed.
2. The acceleration rates of specific activity in the in vivo and in vitro experiments closely resembled each; other, suggesting that the sex hormones act directly on bone.
